Diablo 4 Season of Blood announced with new gory vampiric trailer

Almost a year after the launch of Diablo 4, the undead horde of bloodsuckers is still ravaging the world at the behest of a sinister vampire lord. The game’s second major season, dubbed Season of Blood, will introduce new quests and vampiric powers as you battle through the hordes. It’s set to hit the action RPG on 17 October 2023, and it will see you team up with a seasoned vampire hunter, Eris (voiced by Eternals and Crazy Rich Asians actress Gemma Chan).

You can see a taste of what’s to come in the latest gory vampiric trailer below, and Blizzard has promised more details over the coming weeks. As well as a fresh questline, the studio says that the upcoming chapter will also bring five new endgame bosses, cool vampiric powers to use, and a big bad vampire lord to defeat.

The season will also include a new set of demon armour and weapon sets, including some that are exclusive to the season, plus new Legendary Aspects. These are powerful upgrades that can increase damage, armour, health, and other stats. One of the more interesting additions is a change to how armor works in the game, with resistances now becoming a factor rather than just a bonus to defence. This will open up a whole host of builds that were never possible with the current mechanics.

In addition to these changes, the upcoming update will add a range of quality-of-life tweaks to improve gameplay. For example, Gems will no longer take up inventory space, and stashes can be searched and filtered. Likewise, a number of status effects will be updated to allow for greater variation, such as Vulnerable, Overpower, and Critical Strike Damage.

Finally, the update will also make it easier to farm Unique and Uber Unique items in the game by allowing players to target them more effectively. This is a good thing, as it will remove the frustration of finding the rare drop only to have it disappear from the loot table a minute later.

The new update is a welcome improvement to the game, which is currently suffering from some unwelcome problems that are hampering player enjoyment. It will help to ease some of those issues, so hopefully Season of Blood can be a more enjoyable experience than Season of the Malignant was. You can check out the full patch notes for more details.
